The Action Mill designs websites the same way we create all our other tools: with organizing as the central goal. We work with our clients to find out what they and their community need to get from their website and then build to fit. Anyone can add the latest hot feature to a website; we'll add the features that make your website into an organizing tool that people will actually use.

Website of The Davis Square Tiles Project, a collaboration between The Action Mill and the Think Tank that is yet to be named. This project started as an exploration of what happens in communities where new public transportation is introduced.

In 1980, students at the Powderhouse School in Somerville, Massachusetts made tiles that were later installed in a new subway stop at Davis Square. This project explores the history of Somerville and Davis Square by collecting the stories of the people who made these tiles.

The Action Mill developed the website for Iraq Veterans Against the War in 2006. We started with a process involving staff, leadership and members describing the goals and needs of their organization as a whole, and then designed their site to help fill those needs. IVAW.org includes member profiles and blogs and extensive materials for service members and veterans, an online application form (which has helped boost membership from 500 to more than 1,500), order forms, an interactive map of members, press releases and calendars. Behind the public site, IVAW.org has a members-only section that includes forums, a chatroom, libraries of materials and graphics, and a new-member text message notification system that allows members to see their organization grow in real time. Members update the website themselves with moderators monitoring posts.

A volunteer staff of 15 moved to Washington DC for the weeks leading up to the action, and Abernathy & Associates and SmarteMeme both donated time and resources to the effort.
