The Action is the Message

The Action Mill creates non-violent direct actions, events, websites, products and other tools for progressive organizations, grassroots groups and campaigns.

We also run our own campaigns, including Enough Fear, an international effort to prevent war between the US and Iran. The Enough Fear website collects photos of Americans and Iranians on this website to demonstrate our solidarity in this cause. In late 2007, the Enough Fear campaign began holding a series of events in public spaces in the US where people are invited to use red, old-fashioned phones to talk directly to volunteers in Iran. This campaign has been covered extensively in both the US and Iran, and was the subject of a recent New Yorker article. For more information on this campaign go to EnoughFear.org.

As consultants, the Action Mill provides organizational, website, and strategy support for Iraq Veterans Against the War, an organization of active duty service people and veterans working to end the war and bring our troops home. As part of our work with IVAW, we redesigned their website and continue to maintain it and assist members and staff in using the site to spread the word about their work and reach out to veterans, members of the military, and the public.

We also designed websites and provided organizing support for the Bring Them Home Now Tour and HomeFromIraqNow.org.

Another one of our projects is Turn Your Back on Bush, which on January 20th, 2005, brought 5,000 people to Washington DC for George W. Bush's inaugural parade. This action - which was organized in ten weeks and included people from 47 states traveling to DC to take part - was the result of hard work and generous contributions of space, time and energy by an all-volunteer staff.

We believe that while messaging and framing are important it is important to remember that organizing and action are the tools that have served progressives best for many years.
